Stratoglyph

The general idea for the stratoglyphs came to me in 2016. Simply put, mill five parallel tablesaw width grooves on the interior of all 4 sides of a frame. Using the natural colors of various wood species that are the width of the tablesaw blade, shape them and then insert into the groove to make an image. I milled out the frame for the first one, added a few visual elements, but could not figure out how to proceed. For more than a year and a half, the unfinished thing stared at me every time I walked into my shop. I realized the first one was too painterly, so I moved onto other ideas that were more geometric. I used petroglyphs, an image by Kazimir Malevich, a folded piece of paper to gain an understanding of the process. From there, well....
